Delicious Digest

THERE WILL BE NO BITCHIN IN MY KITCHEN

I AM RICH IN KITCHEN

This word has so many meanings. Aside from the nourishment you get from gathering and eating there is the nourishment to the soul. This cannot be measured in vitamins, minerals or calories.

My nine man team were barely in Iraq more than twelve hours when we made a make shifted fire pit coffee brewing set up. The smell invited others in the area and we gathered and met our brothers and sisters in arms.

Holidays like Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Passover and Easter are the typical gathering times. But really your love for others is alway the best reason .

GIVING BACK

I look at myself and think back at the dreams and aspirations I had as a lad. Wanted to be an astronaut...well technology caught up but the price hasn't. Wanted to be an Emergency Medical Tech...squeamish about blood took care of that. I did learn about the food industry way more than a common cook or even chef. I have thought this for a while. I have way too many years of experience to not give it back. I consider it a crime if I dont. My future lies beyond the yellow brick road where there are hungry less fortunate...helping, teaching, restore dignity. Teach a man to fish. Hunger hides. There should never be hungry children. That is a crime.

"I'm just a cook".

Doris "Dorie" Miller (October 12, 1919 – November 24, 1943) was a United States Navy cook third class who was killed in action during World War II. He was the first black American to be awarded the Navy Cross, the highest decoration for valor in combat after the Medal of Honor.

Not just a cook.

Miller provided assistance to several wounded shipmates aboard USS West Virginia (BB 48) before manning a.50-caliber machine gun, despite not having any training on the weapon.

Miller shot down multiple Japanese aircraft before carrying West Virginia's captain to safety.

Future USS Doris Miller (CVN 81)

I liken it more to like mindfulness where you are more in touch with what you are sustaining yourself on. To share this with others. Doing what is one of mankind's most basic needs  should be for survival/gathering/entertaining/sharing.
